Berlin, Germany. Soviet War Memorial in the Tiergarten (Sowjetisches Kriegerdenkmal). Memorial inaugurated on 7 November 1945, on the anniversary of the beginning of the October Revolution in Russia. It commemorates Soviet soldiers who died in the war, especially those who died during the Battle of Berlin, which took place between April and May 1945. The monument is located in the Grosser Tiergarten, a large public park in the west of the city. It was built with stone from the destroyed Chancellery of the Third Reich. Its design was the work of architect Mikhail Gorvits. The statue of the Soviet soldier was created by sculptors Vladimir Tsigal (1917-2013) and Lev Kerbel (1917-2003).
