Istanbul, Turkey. Reoublic Monument (Cumhuriyet Anƒ±tƒ±), executed in 1928 by Pietro Canonica (1869-1959). It was inaugurated in Taksim Square (Taksim Meydanƒ±) in 1928 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 after the Turkish War of Independence.
