David Livingstone (1813-1873). Scottish explorer. He dedicated his life exploring the African continent until he died, exhausted from physical exertion and suffering from malaria and internal bleeding caused by dysentery. In 1852 he discovered the Victoria Falls on the Zambezi, and reached the shores of the Indian Ocean in 1856. Livingstone's last journey. Photogravure by Andre & Sleigh.
