Julian Sanchez ""el Charro"" (1774-1832). Brigadier of the Spanish army. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted in Ciudad Rodrigo, on 15 August 1808, in the cavalry regiment of the Volunteers of Ciudad Rodrigo, which was being formed. Instead of using the regulation uniform, he wore the costume and saddle of the charro countryside. A few months later he was appointed cavalry ensign, commanding the unit of twelve lancers, with the denomination ""Lanceros de Castilla"", which instead of lances used cattle rods.
