Red Square in Moscow. 1801. Alekseev Fyodor (1753(1754?)-1824). Oil on canvas. State Tretyakov Gallery. The painting depicts the very center of the ancient capital. Pokrovsky Cathedral, better known as St. Basil's Cathedral, built in the 16th century in memory of the conquest of the Kazan Khanate. In front of it is the Lobnoye Mesto, from which royal decrees were announced in ancient Rus'. The right part is closed by the Kremlin wall and the Spasskaya Tower, above the gates of which a large icon of the Savior is placed.
