Légende

Cosmetic vessel with a New Year's wish. Egypt. Circa 664-525 BC. Faience. Such vessels were presented as gifts for the New Year, which in Egypt began with the Nile flood on July 19. Perhaps they were used to store cosmetic oil or Nile water. The vessel has a hieroglyphic text carved into it wishing for a good year: ""May Amun-Ra open a good New Year to its owner! May the Golden One (goddess Hathor) be merciful and give life to its owner!"" Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
