Bernardo Bellotto (1722-1780). View of Pirna from Sonnenstein Castle. 1753-1755. Oil on canvas. Pirna, a small town near Dresden, is depicted from the opposite right bank of the Elbe, from the village of Posta. On the left on the hill stands the Sonnenstein fortress, built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. At the foot of the hill there is a fishing village, to the right are the houses of Pirna, above which rise the Church of St. Mary and the town hall tower. The painting was commissioned by Count Heinrich von Bruhl, minister of the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland Augustus III.
