The allegory is dedicated to the famous journey of Empress Catherine II to Novorossiya and Crimea in 1787. The Empress sits in the Triumphal Chariot surrounded by putti, and the grateful people of the newly annexed lands greet her. Peter the Great watches the Triumphal Procession, with Jupiter sitting in the clouds next to him.
