France. Anonymous allegorical engraving relating to the expulsion of the Jesuits, following Antoine Arnauld's plea before the University of Paris. Antoine Arnauld is seated on the carriage. On 12 July 1594, a trial began before the Parlement of Paris. It pitted the University of Paris, together with the city's parish priests, against the Society of Jesus.
