Arminius, ou les Freres ennemis"" (Arminius, or the Enemy Brothers). Tragicomedy in verse written by French poet and playwright Georges de Scudery (1601-1667). Published in 1644, it is inspired by the story of Arminius (or Hermann the Cheruscan), a Germanic chieftain who inflicted a crushing defeat on the Romans at the Battle of Teutoburg (9 AD). Arminius' life was marked by internal conflicts and the struggle against the Roman invaders. Engraving for the work, published in Paris, Toussaint Quinet, 1644.
