Jean Richer (1630-1696). French astronomer of the Paris Observatory. He was the first scientist to observe that gravitational force was not identical at all points on Earth. Astronomical and gravimetric observations from the island of Cayenne (French Guiana), where Jean Ritcher was sent by the French Academy of Sciences in 1672 to observe Mars during its perigee.
