Francois de Charette (Francois Athanase Charette de La Contrie) (1763-1796). French military officer, General of the Catholic and Royal Army of Vendee. He was condemned to death and executed on 29 March 1796 at Place Viarme in Nantes. In front of the firing squad he refused to be blindfolded and commended himself to God. Death of Charette.
