Claude Basire (1764-1794). French politician. Elected deputy for the Cote-d'Or to the Legislative Assembly (3 September 1791 to 20 September 1792). A member of the National Convention (4 September 1792 to 5 April 1794), he joined La Montagne (The Mountain), opposing the postponement of the trial of King Louis XVI and voting in favour of his execution. He was accused of having participated in the falsification of a decree relative to the liquidation of the French East India Company. The Revolutionary Tribunal condemned him to death and he was guillotined. Portrait. Engraving. ""History of the French Revolution"". Volume I, 1876.
