A rood screen.
Légende
A rood screen, also called a doxale, is a stone or wooden barrier, from a man's height to almost room height, which, especially in cathedrals, monasteries and collegiate churches, separated the space for the priests or monks from the rest of the church space, which was intended for the laity. Church of Sainte-Madeleine in Troyes, around 1850, Grand Est, France. Historical, digitally enhanced reproduction of an original from around 1860.
