Sir Joshua Reynolds, PRA FRSA, (born 16 July 1723 in Plympton near Plymouth, Devon, died 23 February 1792 in London) was, alongside William Hogarth and Thomas Gainsborough, the most famous and, through his artistic and art-theoretical work, the most influential English painter of the 18th century.
