Famous people in American history, Samuel Finley Breese Morse (April 27, 1791 in Charlestown, Massachusetts; April 2, 1872 in New York) was an American inventor and professor of painting, sculpture, and drawing. Starting in 1837, Morse developed a simple telegraph (Morse apparatus) and, together with his colleague Alfred Vail, an early Morse code.
