League of the Three Emperors. Alliance formed from 1873 to 1887 by the emperors of the German, Austro-Hungarian and Russian empires. They created a common front to oppose liberal forms of government in Western Europe. Three Emperors’ Meeting in Skierniewicz (Poland) (15-17 September, 1884). On the evening of 16 September, Emperors Alexander III (Russia), Franz Joseph (Austria), Wilhelm I (Germany), and their respective ministers, Otto von Bismarck (German), Nikolay Girs (Russian) and Gustave Kalnoky (Austrian), met in the Tsar's palace.
