Burgos, Spain. Solar del Cid. Monument built in 1784 by Jose Cortes, which marks the place where, according to tradition, El Cid (Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, ca. 1048-1099) was born. The site features a pedestal with three monoliths with the shields of Burgos, San Pedro de Cardena and a commemorative inscription with the coat of arms of El Cid.
