Giuseppe Diotti (1779-1846). Italian painter. The Oath of Pontida, 1836-1837. Painting that depicts the ceremony that would have taken place on 7 April 1167, in the abbey of Pontida, near Bergamo (Italy). The municipalities of Milan, Lodi, Ferrara, Parma and Piacenza allied militarily to fight against the Holy Roman Empire of Frederick I Barbarossa (1122-1190), which was the origin of the Lombard League.
