Valiant Little Tailor
Légende
In 1812, the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, published Children and Household Tales, a collection German fairy tales. This illustration accompanied the tale ""Valiant Little Tailor"" and depicts the part of the tale when the king has been told by his military that either the tailor or they go. The king then sends the tailor to fight Two Giants, and if does manage to do so, he can have half the kingdom and his daughter's hand in marriage. The tailor throws a stone at the Giants when they sleep and they fight each other, while he watches (seen here). This image is from Grimms Eventyr (Grimm's Fairy Tales) by Carl Ewald, published in 1922. The frontispiece has the illustrations by Philip Grot Johann and R. Leinweber. Johann was a well-known German illustrator and did pieces for Goethe, but he considered his pieces for Grimm's tales very important. He died young and Leinweber succeeded him as illustrator for later editions of the tales.
