The historical link of the town of Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire, England, is to English poet Thomas Gray, whose mother was buried in the cemetery here and who began work on  his ""Elegy in a Country Churchyard"" in 1742 while visiting  here and finished the poem here in 1750. Gray was also buried here.
