Zankoff. Governor of the city of Svishtov, one of the chief leaders of the rebel government formed after the kidnapping of Prince Alexander of Battenberg (1857-1893). It was the first Ottoman city to be liberated, with the help of Russia, during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), becoming a territory of the autonomous Principality of Bulgaria. Portrait. Engraving.
