The Death of the Earl of Chatham, after a painting by John Singleton Copley. William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, British statesman and Prime Minister. In fact, Pitt did not die in the House of Lords. He collapsed there on April 7, 1778 and died in Hayes, Kent, May 11 1778.
