Légende

Spain, Andalusia, Huelva province. Opening of the public passenger service on the Tharsis-Odiel River railway line. The line was built by the British Tharsis Sulphur and Cooper Company, which owned several mines in the Huelva area of Tharsis. Ir was the second railway to be built in the province of Huelva, and it ran from the Tharsis mines to the port of Corrales, near Huelva. A single-track, 809-metre-long, and iron wharf was built on the Odiel River. Later, new branches were added to the main line; in 1881 a 15 km section was built that went to the Laguzano Mine. On 19 July 1881, The Rio-Tinto Company Limited, the concessionaire of the Rio Tinto mines since 1873, opened its railway to passenger traffic. Arrival of the first train for the passenger service at "Medio-Millar" station on July 19, 1881. Engraving by Bernardo Rico y Ortega (1825-1894). La Ilustracion Española y Americana, 1881.
