Entry of the French army into Tunisian territory. Finding very little resistance, it was proclaimed the French Protectorate of Tunisia (from May 12, 1881 to March 20, 1956). French expedition to Tunisia. Fort on Tabarka Island. During the war it was bombed by the French frigate "Surveillante" on April 26, 1881. Engraving by Bernardo Rico (1825-1894).
