Magic lantern slide circa 1900.Victorian/Edwardian.Social History.No. 4.— Colonnade of Djam'da Fl-Kebir Mosque. This is an excellent view, showing the Colonnade of the Mosque Djamaa El-Kebir, which possesses interest, and is the most ancient in the country. The colonnade is of white marble, and a considerable amount of labour has been expended in its execution. The fountain, also of marble, is erected for the use of worshippers [B]. At the end of the Colonnade is the rectangular minaret so frequently met with in Algeria. On our right is the entrance through which intending worshippers enter. The Great Mosque is located in the northeastern part of the city in the historic Kasbah area near the harbor, next to the Chamber of Commerce
