The mountains on either side of the ravine rise to a con¬siderable height, and are so clothed with vegetation as to entirely cause one to forget that they are in Africa And here since we have now lost sight of the Mediterranean and have—in a very small degree, it is true [B]—arrived in the interior of that continent, it will be well to say farewell to one of the most beautiful and certainly the most interesting of seas.
