Magic Lantern slide circa 1900 hand coloured. Titled Cities and places of interest in the Mediterranean.No. 27—OLD TOWN OF MENTONE FROM THE ESPLANAD . The esplanade at Mentone is of considerable length, stretching from the west hay on one side of the town to the east on the other, and it is here that daily walk both the invalids who are sojourning at Mentone for the mildness of the air, and the healthy visitors who are simply there with a view to enjoying themselves. Persons who do not care for the excitement and dissipation of Nice flock here in large numbers, and as the surrounding country offers most beautiful excursions, and pleasant society is to be met with in the hotels, it is not strange that so large a quantity of travellers should spend their winters there.
