ZambiaNorthern Rhodesia, Dressed in a Western-style suit and top hat, an African chief (possibly Litunga Lubosi I of Barotseland, r.1885-1916) accepts a cup of tea and a slice of cake from an Indian servant at an outdoor reception for the Duke and Duchess of Connaught. 12 November 1910.Notes from a printed itinerary of the visit:Saturday, November 121 P.M. Livingstone. Arrive. Guard of Honour. Colonal Carden and officers of Guard to be presented. Walk through gardens to Government House.1.30 P.M. Government House, Lunch. Between lunch and 4 P.M. it is too hot to go out and nothing is arranged for this interval. 4 P.M. Presentation of Address from Inhabitants of Livingstone. Probably received by Mr. Clarke and other townspeople.5 P.M. Hospital, visit to Hospital. Present: Dr. May, Principle Medical Officer; Dr. Ellacombe, District Surgeon; Matron and two Nurses.8 P.M. Government House, Dinner. Guests: Mr. Worthington (Secretary for Native Affairs) and Dr. May, 1910. 1995/076/1/4/1/60.
