A detail from the so called Standard of Ur, side B, The figures are composed of shell with engraved details in a backround of lapis lazuli. This side shows a banquet, perhaps in celebration of victory, and a procession of spoils. It may have been the sounding box of a musical instrument. Sumerian. Early dynastic, c 2500 BC. Ur, Sumerian, Ancient Iraq.
