Coatlicue, the Earth Mother, creator of man and goddess of life and death, Her head is formed from the facing heads of two rattlesnakes and she wears a necklace of hearts, hands and skulls. One of a pair of colossal statues which stood in the courtyard of the Great Temple at Tenochtitlan. Mexico. Aztec late Postclassic. Excavated in 1824 in Mexico City. Great Temple at Tenochtitlan.
