Légende

This Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5A was a former W.W.1 fighter, which was converted in 1923 by the Savage Skywriting Co. Ltd at Hendon to be one of its fleet of skywriting aircraft.

Using smoke canisters to Ôwrite in the skyÕ this was a popular means of advertising during the 1920s and again after W.W.2; it was banned in the 1950s.

Ironically given its pedigree this aircraft was sold to Germany in 1929, moved on to Holland in 1934 but returned to Germany in 1936.

ItÕs pictured at Heston in West London on 13th January 1936 shortly before returning to its base in Dusseldorf via Brussels.

During the war this plane was flown by many famous British pilots, including Major McCadden and Colonel Bishop now used by a German pilot, Herr Martin Rudolf, under German registration letters, and the Hitler Swastika on the tail.
