Eine Ausstellung in der Sparkasse Saarbrücken ist am Mittwoch (14.10.2015) dem Saar-Referendum von 1955 gewidmet. Am 23. Oktober 1955 wurde nach einem heftig geführten Abstimmungskampf eine Volksbefragung über die Zukunft des Landes durchgeführt, wobei 67,7 Prozent der Saarländer mit Nein stimmten und sich damit gegen das Saarstatut entschieden. Das Saarstatut war die Vision des saarländischen Ministerpräsidenten Johannes Hoffmann (Joho oder der Dicke genannt), der das Saarland zum ersten europäischen Territorium machen wollte. Die Planung ganzer Stadtteile in und um Saarbrücken, die die heute in Brüssel, Luxemburg und Straßburg befindlichen europäischen Institutionen aufnehmen sollten, war bereits angelaufen. Das Ergebnis der Abstimmung werteten die politisch Verantwortlichen in den beteiligten Regierungen als Wunsch der Saarländer, sich der Bundesrepublik anzuschließen. Am 27. Okt
