Appears before the letter., Person, Arminius (general), attempt, political murder, extinct, 'historical' peoples (with NAME), Roman period in the Netherlands, A detailed black and white engraving shows a group of men in historical clothing engaged in a violent struggle in a wooded landscape; several men in short tunics and cloaks with tied-up hair grasp and stab at one another with short swords or spears while one man in the center receives multiple thrusts and leans back with a grimacing expression; behind them other figures stand among tall trees and hold long staffs, one pointing outward as if addressing the scene; dense foliage fills the upper area with textured tree trunks and leaves, and a rocky hillside appears in the background, while the ground beneath the combatants shows scattered plants and small stones.
