XI., capture of city (after the siege), Attack on Hattem and Elburg, Hattem, Period, 1786-09-06, A detailed monochrome engraving shows a large sky filled with textured clouds above a townscape with a tall steepled church and clustered buildings, a riverside or moat curving at the right edge, and a fortified gatehouse near the center. In the foreground a mounted figure with a cloak and raised arm holds a sword while facing a column of marching soldiers who carry long pikes and wear tricorn hats. A few individual figures walk near the gate, and trees and low vegetation appear along the water and behind the buildings. The scene is rendered with fine line work and crosshatching across sky, architecture, figures, and ground.
