IX., occupation, war (citizen soldiery, civil guard, citizen militia), Patriot Era (1780-1795), Delft, City Hall (Delft), Period, 1787-08-21, A detailed black-and-white engraving shows a street scene with a large multi-story building on the left featuring tall windows, decorative stonework, and an arched entrance with a small portico and steps where a few figures stand; in front of the building and extending into the foreground a formation of uniformed soldiers or guards march or stand in ranks, many wearing tricorn hats and carrying long pikes or poles, while a couple of men with staffs or banners walk among them and a small dog and a child appear near the front; in the middle distance a row of rooftops and gabled buildings stretches toward a prominent Gothic church tower with a tall spire and additional pinnacles, and the sky is filled with finely hatched cloud shading.
