The man’s face is detailed with a composed expression and shading that emphasizes facial features and hair curls. To the left of the frame a bundled rod leans upward, and below the frame a carved ledge with ornamental molding supports a cylindrical object tied with cords and a short handled implement. Draped fabric with visible folds hangs to the right, partially covering the frame and the ledge. The background and architectural elements are rendered with fine crosshatching and closely spaced lines.
