Amsterdam: Johannes Allart, 1786-1809., Person, Matthias van Geuns, A framed engraved portrait of an older man with powdered hair and side curls is centered above a carved plinth; he wears a dark robe and a light-colored clerical band at his neck, and his face shows detailed shading and fine etched lines with a neutral expression and slightly raised eyebrows; the rectangular frame around the portrait is ornate with layered moldings and crosshatched shading, set against a textured background of repeated horizontal and vertical hatch marks, and beneath the frame a broad ledge and pedestal with fluted and paneled carving extends downward, all rendered in fine monochrome engraving lines.
