Midground features a low bridge or causeway crossing the water with two small human figures visible on it and a small boat in the water nearby; beyond the bridge are clusters of bare, leafless trees and dense shrubbery interspersed with simple thatched or gabled buildings and a distant church steeple rising above a tree line. The sky occupies much of the upper area, filled with broad, horizontal shading and soft, sweeping cloud forms, while the overall image uses delicate crosshatching and varied line work to indicate texture and tonal variation.
