The seamstress (original title on object), print, printmaker: Philip Zilcken (signed by artist), after design by Jozef Israëls (signed by artist), 1890 - 1930, paper, etching, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, height 222 mm x width 182 mm, adult woman, sewing, A sepia-toned drawing shows a seated figure wearing a head covering and a simple dress, holding fabric and needlework in their hands while looking downward; the figure sits on a wooden chair with visible slats and a woven seat, and long folds of the skirt drape over the legs and feet. To the left there is a window with panes and a light curtain partially drawn, casting lighter tones against the darker interior wall panels behind the figure. The room is rendered with fine crosshatching and textured shading, creating contrasts between the illuminated window area, the mid-tones around the figure, and the deep shadowed corners of the space.
