In the middle distance a broad river or body of water stretches toward a distant low shoreline with indistinct buildings and towers visible along it. On the foreground slope two figures in simple garments walk with staffs, while a group of figures in classical-style robes and helmets stand near a horse beside the cliff edge, one figure gesturing with an outstretched arm. Small birds are drawn in the sky and scattered clouds appear above the scene. The ground foreground includes rocks, low vegetation, and a few tents or small structures partially visible among trees.
