Flames and dark smoke appear along the left side of the upper balcony, drifting into the auditorium. Figures in period clothing are scattered across the balconies and seating areas, many in dynamic poses with arms raised, reaching, or leaning forward and backward. Some people cling to the balcony railing, others kneel or slump on benches, and a few appear to be helping or supporting each other. Ornamental garlands and carved panels decorate the balcony fronts, and ropes or cords hang from the ceiling.
