Amsterdam: Jodocus Hondius I, 1611., courtyard, purse, money-bag, caduceus (staff with two snakes, attribute of Mercury), attributes of Neptune: trident, Exchange, Bourse, Beurs van Hendrik de Keyser, A wide architectural engraving shows a rectangular courtyard framed by two long colonnaded arcades and a central building with a tall clock tower rising above the far side, the arcades featuring repeated arches, columns, and an upper row of windows beneath a steep roof with dormers, while the courtyard floor displays a patterned paving and low raised platforms; numerous figures in period dress populate the space, some walking, others standing in groups and conversing, with a few gestures and interactions visible; two winged cherubs hover near the top, each holding drapery and objects, and decorative scrollwork with cartouches and sculpted mascarons adorns the lower margin.
