Numbered at the top right: 3., printmaker: Simon Fokke, Amsterdam, after design by, publisher: Pierre Fouquet, 1762 - 1783, Pierre Fouquet, printmaker, publisher, paper, etching, engraving, height 282 mm x width 386 mm, This print was also used in the so-called Atlas of Fouquet.* From 1760 onwards, Pierre Fouquet published cityscapes of Amsterdam – based on drawings by various artists, made by various printmakers. These prints were initially sold individually or in series. As was customary at the time, the buyer could have the prints bound themselves. To this end, between 1778 and 1783, Fouquet published a title page, map, and table of contents of the 100 prints published so far (1). Given that the content depended on what the buyer had collected, the content of the various surviving Fouquet atlases under this title varies greatly. Copies are also known to which other prints have been added. Because there proved to be a need for explanation of the plates, a new version of the atlas was published in 1783, supplemented with text and two prints. The order indicated changed, but the plates of the previously published prints remained unchanged. This edition was printed by Daniël Jean Changuion and Petrus den Hengst (2) on behalf of Fouquet. About ten plates were updated and appeared, with a new imprint, in the continuation of Wagenaar's history of Amsterdam, published by Petrus Conradi and Folkert van der Plaats (3).
