Under the arch a central sculptural group depicts a standing armored male figure holding a sword and shield, a winged figure behind him with one arm raised holding a trumpet and the other a wreath, and several smaller childlike figures clustered at their feet. Above the arch sits a helmeted bust with flowing drapery and flags or pennants on poles arranged behind and above the structure. The background
