Two seated figures rest beside the railing under the trees, one leaning forward and the other sitting nearby. The river fills the left side of the image, with a small rowboat carrying people near the nearer bank and a larger sailboat further back. On the opposite shore a town is visible with clustered buildings and a prominent windmill with sails extended. Several vertical poles rise from the water near the middle distance.
