Inside the oval, a seated man in simple draped clothing rests against a rock under a large leafy tree, one hand touching his chest. Nearby a standing figure leans on a long staff, facing the seated man. Several sheep lie and graze on the ground in the foreground, and additional animals rest near the seated figure. The background features distant hills, clustered trees, and a textured sky created with fine line work. The entire composition is executed in delicate engraved lines with detailed crosshatching and botanical ornament extending slightly beyond the frame edges.
