Hubertus, print, Netherlands, 1600 - 1699, printmaker, paper, engraving, etching, height 160 mm x width 115 mm, the hunter Hubert(us), bishop of Maastricht and Liège, possible attributes: hounds, hunting horn, key, stag with crucifix, (bishop's) stole, An engraved scene shows a bearded man wearing ornate bishop’s vestments and a tall mitre, holding a long crozier in one hand and gesturing with the other; a cross hangs from his chest and decorative patterns run along his cloak edges. A reclining stag with large antlers rests near his feet, and a small crucifix appears entangled in the antlers. In the background a landscape of trees and two additional deer is visible, one facing a kneeling human figure. In the sky a cluster of clouds contains two cherubic faces and a beam of light extends from the clouds toward the bishop’s head. The lower portion of the image contains a block of hand-lettered lines separated into columns.
