History of the eighteenth century, 1801, vol. 1, between p. 258 and 259., street-fights, riots, violent death by firearms, Nijmegen, Period, 1703-01-02, A detailed engraved scene shows a row of tall, ornate stone buildings with steep tiled roofs and many narrow windows, some with pointed arches and decorative pediments, and a large central entrance flanked by statues; in front of the buildings a dense cloud of smoke or powder rises while armed figures in period clothing engage in battle, holding pikes, muskets, and flags, with some figures firing or reloading their weapons and others grappling or falling to the ground; tents and wooden poles are visible amid the combatants, and the foreground is crowded with soldiers in various dynamic poses.
