Ottens, ca. 1730, landscape with tower or castle, country house, Huis Batenstein, A detailed sepia-toned architectural engraving shows a fortified complex with high walls, towers, and a variety of connected buildings with pitched and stepped roofs, turrets, and chimneys. In front of the buildings there are formal gardens with symmetrical pathways, ornamental beds, hedges, and statues or fountains placed within the beds. Trees line parts of the grounds and small figures are depicted walking or standing in the garden areas. Architectural details include narrow windows, crenellated tops, flagpoles with small pennants, a round domed turret, and a windmill visible toward the right. The sky is rendered with fine horizontal hatching and the foreground shows a textured wall or embankment running across the width of the image.
